The development of the Open Climability Suite is based on the project
"Database for managing information on climate adaptation (Indonesia)",
which was contracted by The International Climate Initiative of the
Federal Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear
Safety (BMU) in Germany to the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale
Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH or GIZ and the Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency
(BMKG) of Indonesia. The companies geoSYS from Germany and iRiskio from
Indonesia have jointly accomplished the project.
The Open Climability Suite aims at supporting Indonesia in the adaptation
to climate change by providing useful products in usable ways for Indonesian
stakeholders. These products were developed based on dialogs with the sectors
to identify needs and availability and data from Indonesian weather stations.
This strengthens the national weather service BMKG in its mandate to provide
the essential climate change data and information as described in the goals
of the Indonesian mid-term development plan 2010-2014. The current version
contains observed historical climate data. Future projections of climate
information from climate models are planned to be included in the future.
The Open Climability Suite is an open-source project, and only contains open-source software components. The software can be freely used under the terms of the GPL license.
geoSYS and iRiskio have jointly developed the Indonesian prototype of the Open Climability Suite, named CCIS (Climate Change Information System).
The open-source Open Climability Suite focuses on building an internationally applicable (*and transferrable*) solution and is developed and maintained by geoSYS, different software developers and international experts on Climate Change modeling.
